The newly opened Chelsea Art Museum (CAM), in the heart of the Chelsea gallery district, occupies a completely renovated three-story brick building comprising some 30,000 square feet on three floors. CAM was created to showcase postwar artists and foster the language of abstraction in contemporary culture, and to provide a venue for national and international artists who are less familiar to New York audiences. By offering exhibitions, public forums, and collaborative opportunities, the Museum aims to create transcultural dialogues. CAM is committed to scholarship, outreach to young people, and initiatives related to the environment and human rights. The Chelsea Art Museum is also home to the Miotte Foundation, which is dedicated to archiving and conserving the oeuvre of Jean Miotte and providing new scholarship and research on L’Informel. |
