Tina LaPorta is a media artist who lives and works in New York City. Her most recent work has been created specifically for the internet. She has been commissioned by the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Alternative Museum and turbulence.org to create web-specific art projects.

The overall conceptual focus of her artwork is an "exploration of the impact the internet has on the expression of identity... to make art which comments on our lives and the shifting perceptions of ourselves in this technological age."

Her work has been included in Fotofest’s ‘net.art’ exhibition as well as "Telematic Connections: The Virtual Embrace," at the San Francisco Art Institute; "Technically Engaged" at AIR Gallery, NYC; "Dystopia and Identity in the Age of Global Communications," at Tribes Gallery in NYC and "Body as Byte," at Neues Kunstmuseum Luzern, Switzerland.

Ms. LaPorta has been invited to participate in several symposia and on-line projects including: "The Warhol Hijack," at weliveinpublic.com, Gender in New Media Online Panel at "INVENCAO: Thinking The Next Millennium," conference (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Alterities : Interdisciplinarity and Feminine Practices of Space at the Ecole Suprieure Nationale desBeaux Arts, Paris France.

Ms. LaPorta has organized and moderated several symposia including "Women in New Media" for the 16th Annual Women in the Arts Conference at Rutgers University, presented her work at the Feminist Art/Art History Conference at Barnard, has given a lecture on Artistic Practice in the Network at Cooper Union and lectured on her work at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna Austria. She also Moderated a panel discussion for the Women\'s Caucus of the College Art Association\'s Conference in 1994 which investigated the relationship between information technologies and Representations of the body.

Ms. LaPorta\'s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, HotWired, NY Arts Magazine, Art Actuel, Ciberpais, Rhizome, and L\'Autre Web. Her work has been published in Leonardo; Journal for Women & Performance; PForm; Ms. Magazine; Public Culture; Crash; William and Mary Review and in the CD-Rom The Little Magazine, "Gravitational Intrigue: an anthology of emergent hypermedia."
